Our School

Our mission is to train and educate children in Performing Arts to an advanced level and support the students who wish to pursue performing arts as a professional career.

Figueira Stage School offers structured dance, singing, and theatre courses, giving the students the best possible education to equip them for a career in the world of performing arts.

Our Goals are to:

  • Provide, in a caring environment, fundamental artistic and technical training, offering all students of the school a positive learning experience which is constantly monitored for potential improvement.
  • We focus on developing our students’ knowledge and understanding of the Arts, expand performance ability and increase self confidence through learning.
  • We aim to help each student individually by increasing their abilities which will enable them to grow as an individual.
  • Offer students as many performing opportunities as possible in the School year.

To become a professional dancer/singer/actor the requirements are, besides good physical abilities, a feeling for movement, musicality and stage presence, a sound education, dedication and passion for being on stage. The talent, motivation and passion of the students will assist them carry this development further, helping them make the transition from an amateur to a professional level.

Figueira Stage School is proud to offer a high standard of education where the artistic, technical and physical training go hand in hand to reach the professional standard and demands of today's dance and theatre industry. Biography Cecilia Carneby Reveles:

Cecilia started taking music lessons at the age of 4, and at the age of 5 her mother put her to do ballet classes with Solveig Falk, former dancer of the Royal Swedish Ballet. Singing was always a big passion, and in her teens she started taking private singing lessons with Swedish opera singer Margareta Cronqvist. At around the age of 16, she knew that she wanted to pursue “performing arts” as a professional career.

Not being able to choose between singing and dancing, she auditioned for a Musical Theatre program at “Perfoming arts School” in Gothemburg. The following year she auditioned and got accepted to study at one of London’s prestigious performing arts Schools, “London Studio Centre”. At LSC she had the opportunity to study for the former Royal Ballet Principal Ballerina and current RAD tutor Anita Young, tap and Jazz legend Bill Drysdale, West End show choreographer Anthony Van Last, and drama teacher Susan Ramsey and many more. After taking a great interest in acting as well as singing and dancing, Cecilia chose to specialize in Musical Theatre in her 3rd year of studying, and for the final part of her school year, she landed the lead role in the well known musical “Babes in Arms” and graduated with a BA honors Degree in Theatre Dance, and distinction on her Musical Theatre Course Diploma. After graduating Cecilia landed a role in the London West End show “Romeo & Juliet, themusical” in 2002 In 2003 she joined the cast of Andrew Lloyd Webbers UK touring musical “Joseph and his amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” which lasted for 18 months.

Besides from doing musicals, Cecilia has appeared and acted in TV shows such as: Keen Eddie (British paramount pictures), Wyrd Sisters (ITV), Is Harry on the boat? (Sky TV) Holby City (BBC) White Teeth (Channel 4) Jonathan Creek (BBC)

Her professional dance credits include dancing on British (MTV) awards, Smash Hits Pole Party, and working with artists such as Kylie Minouge, Ash, A1, and Moloko´s front singer Rosin Murphy.

In 2005 Cecilia decided that she wanted to take a break from London and accepted a 6 month contract as a singer/dancer for Patrice Marques Productions at Casino Figueira. She found herself happy, working and living in the small town of Figueira da Foz and extended her contract until September 2007 when she changed and joined the cast of the cirque show “FOUR” in Casino Estoril. In April 2008 she got an offer to return to Casino Figueira, this time as the Show Company Manager. Cecilia managed and completed another 6 shows in Casino Figueira until the end of 2011 when the show closed.

In the autumn of 2011 Cecilia teamed up with one of her Casino colleagues, Amy Ruffell and founded Figueira Stage School.

Biography Amy Ruffell

Amy RuffelFrom Cornwall, England. Aged three years old, Amy began classical ballet lessons studying RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) at her local dancing academy. Showing a strong passion for the art form from an early age Amy began study other disciplines of dance including Jazz and Tap. Amy studied and passed pre-primary to grade 6 RAD ballet exams, Intermediate Cecchetti Ballet exam, ISTD preliminary student Jazz and Tap exams, NATD grade 6 Ballet, grade 5 tap and junior gold medal in modern stage dance.

At the age of sixteen Amy was awarded a years training at Dance College of Cornwall, a preparatory school for amateur dancers wanting to turn professional. It was here she undertook a vigorous years training in preparation for her auditions into professional dance schools in London, a goal she was determined to achieve.

Aged seventeen Amy was accepted into various dance schools in London, but decided to attend the Urdang Academy, and in 2003 Amy began her professional towards a BTEC National diploma in Performing Arts. During her time at the Urdang Academy, Amy studied Classical Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Tap, Street, Musical Theatre along with singing and acting lessons.

In 2006 Amy graduated from the Urdang Academy and began working instantly for the well renowned company Belinda King Presents. Aged 19 Amy was offered a contract in the Algarve where she performed in ‘Exposed’ in both Hotel Algarve Casino and Casino Monte Gordo.

Following her contract in the Algarve Amy passed the next two years working as Dance Captain for Gary Musick, a production company for American cruise liner company Celebrity Cruises. Amy participated in in six shows during her time on cruise ships varying in dance styles, furthering her knowledge and growth as a performer.

In 2008 Amy returned to Portugal once again for Belinda King, happy to be returning to the stages where she began her dancing career performing in ‘Mundo Latino‘.
Amy first began working in Casino Figueira da Foz for Patrice Marques in 2009. Amy quickly fell in love with the city of Figueira and what was meant to be a six month contract turned into three and a half years. During her three and a half year contract with Patrice Marques, Amy performed in ’Showtime’, ’Hot Seasons’ and ’Flashback’.

In 2010 Amy decided to add to her academic credits and enrolled in a Degree Course. In fifteen months Amy was able to top up her BTEC National Diploma to a BA Hons Degree in Professional Practice and Performing Arts.

Figueira da Foz became home to Amy and in November of 2011 she joined with friend and colleague Cecilia Reveles and founded Figueira Stage School.

Biography Emily Gooijer -Professional dancer & instructor of dance and Zumba Fitness.

Emily started with dancing and gymnastics at the age off eight and was advised by teachers to audition for the pre dance academy course of four years.
After being accepted she went into a special school that provided cenvenient school schedules to combine with her intense pre Academy training.

When the four years were succesfully completed she enrolled into Fontys dance academy in the south of Holland at the age of 16.
After an amazing three years of intense training in all round musical theater classes (ballet,jazz,tap,contemporary,and many more) she found herself a place with Rios productions for her working experience year in Hotel Lotte Pusan south Korea, were she performed for a year in a very big production show.

She soon came to realise she was in the right area of dance doing these kind of revue shows as she was always a tall ''show girl''
She soon got advised to audition for the prestige cabaret "Moulin Rouge Paris", so Emily packed her bags and went to Paris for an audition.
She got accepted that same day and Emily stayed in Paris for the next year working in one of the worlds most famous cabaret!

From then on the ball started rolling and there was no stopping her, she has been working in all the big cabaret and revues all over the world.
Portugal, Milano, France, South Korea, Slovenia, Gran Canaria and many more.

In 2012 Emily decided to take a step back from the performing side of dance and start teaching.

She enrolled in a Zumba Fitness course in Hong Kong whilest working in a big cabaret in Macau in Casino Grand Lisboa.
Once she had completed the course she started teaching in Hong kong and Macau straight away.

She enjoyed teaching so much that she decided to finish her performing in Macau and come back to Portugal to join her two friends who opened a dance school (Figueira stage school),teaching Zumba Fitness.

Teaching Zumba Fitness in Portugal is a great experience as its very up and coming here and she is glad to be a part of the introduction of Zumba Fitness in Portugal.

Zumba Fitness is the new fitness craze and brings people joy and health all over the world!And Portugal is now on theyre way aswell!

Teaching in Figueira stage school is a great oppurtunity to work as a professional teacher and Emily hopes to have many happy students in the future.

PTD Courses & Exams

PROFESSIONAL TEACHERS of DANCING

Guild of Professional Teachers of Dancing (GPTD)

The Professional Teachers of Dancing (PTD) is an examining board and teaching society that was established in 1992, PTD society covers a range of dance subjects both in the UK and abroad. The PTD specialises in the theatre branches of:

  • Ballet Clássico
  • Jazz/Moderno
  • Sapateado
  • Teatro Musical/Produção
  • Hip Hop

At the end of the school year each student at “Figueira Stage School” have an option to enter exams that will be maked by an international examiner of PTD.

Both Amy Ruffell and Cecilia Carneby Reveles are members of PTD and are qualified to teach all above subject from beginners to advanced levels.

Our Store

Mystyle Dance and Mystyle Sports is store located in Figueira da Foz. For customers convenience we also have an online store where people from all over Portugal can reach our products. Working a lot abroad, I have always found that in Portugal dance wear/sports wear is highly over priced. We took the initiative to start selling dance clothes/ sports wear with quality because we feel that these products should be more widely available and affordable.

Our focus has always been on helping customers save time and money. Orders placed online will be shipped within 24h unless it’s a weekend. We welcome all feedback and suggestions. If you have any questions regarding our products please do not hesitate to contact us, we will be delighted to answer any questions you may have.

Classes At Your Institution

Figueira Stage School also teaches dance outside of our own establishment.

We offer our services to teach at local schools and establishments where the students have the oppertunity to take part of our dance education as an extra activity.
